The following are biographies for architects and landscape architects who practiced in the Modern vein in Washington State. While many of these designers were born, raised and trained in Washington, others migrated to the state to take advantage of the post-war building boom. Still others remained out-of-state, but offered their unique talents and skills to the built environment. Architects in Washington were on the cutting edge of architectural design during the 1950s. Many of them were beginning to receive national acclaim for designing some of the finest modern buildings in the country. From 1949 to 1961, projects in Washington received two National Honor awards and seven Merit awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
